Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal for men in Málaga

Laser hair removal for men gives long-lasting, progressive reduction of hair on the back, shoulders, chest, stomach, neck and nape, and can tidy up the beard line, using a diode laser with a cooled sapphire tip. At Narumi, in Málaga city centre, it's carried out by Marta Fernández. Men's hair is coarse and dense: it responds well, but usually needs 8 to 10 sessions, every 6–10 weeks, plus some top-ups over the years.

What you can (and can't) expect

What it helps with

  • Back and shoulder hair, which is hard to shave yourself
  • Chest and stomach hair, which grows back sparser and finer
  • A cleaner neck and nape line that lasts longer
  • Razor irritation and ingrown hairs on the neck
  • Comfort in sports where you shave regularly

What it doesn't do

  • It doesn't stop new hair appearing with age: that's managed with top-ups
  • It doesn't work on grey hair, such as grey beard or chest hair
  • It doesn't improve back acne or pigmentation

Is it right for you?

Ideal for

  • Men who shave their back, chest or stomach and want to stop
  • Anyone with razor irritation or ingrown hairs on the neck
  • Cyclists, swimmers, triathletes and gym-goers
  • Anyone who wants a defined beard line without touching it up every day

When we don't carry it out

  • Tanned skin on the back, shoulders or chest in the last 15 days
  • Inflamed spots, broken skin or irritation in the area
  • Fine, light fuzz on the shoulders or upper back
  • Over tattoos, moles or marks that are changing
  • Photosensitising medication or recent isotretinoin without your doctor's go-ahead
  • Clearing the whole beard if you're not sure about the decision

If you're unsure about your own situation, check with your doctor first. We'll go through it with you at your initial consultation.

Your session, step by step

  1. What to reduce and what to keep

We talk about how far to go: reducing density, clearing completely or simply shaping. For the beard, we mark the line with you, face to face.

  2. Shaving

Come shaved from the day before. If you can't reach your back, let us know and we'll shave it at the start of the session.

  3. Checking the skin

We leave out moles, tattoos, inflamed spots and areas of fine fuzz.

  4. Pulses area by area

We work in broad passes with the cooled sapphire tip and adjust the energy to the density of the hair.

  5. Soothing and planning

A soothing product and a date for your next session, fitted around your training or competitions.

Men’s hair: coarse, dense and driven by hormones

Men’s back, chest and stomach hair is, on paper, the type that responds best to a diode laser: dark, coarse and full of pigment. What makes it take longer is the sheer quantity. There are lots of follicles per square centimetre, and testosterone keeps waking new ones over the years, especially on the shoulders and back.

So it’s worth starting with clear expectations: you’ll see less hair, and finer hair, from the first sessions, but a full course on the back or chest is usually a little longer than for a woman, and top-ups are normal. It also helps to decide from the outset whether you want to clear the area completely or just reduce the density. Many men prefer a chest with less hair rather than none, and that changes the number of sessions.

The beard: shape it, yes; think twice before removing it

Beard shaping is one of the most practical requests. We clear the neck below the jaw and the upper cheeks, leaving the beard defined without having to tidy it every morning. It also reduces the irritation and ingrown hairs that daily shaving leaves on the neck.

We mark the line with you and take a conservative approach, because the reduction is long-lasting and a line set too high can’t be corrected downwards. Removing the whole beard is possible too, but it’s a decision for many years: we’ll ask you to think it over calmly.

If you play sport

Cyclists, swimmers, triathletes and regular gym-goers often shave for comfort, for sports massage or for strapping. Laser saves them the bother, but it has to fit the calendar: no intense training or swimming in the 48 hours afterwards, and no session right before a big event. In Málaga, where people train outdoors almost all year, add sunscreen on your shoulders and arms during the weeks of treatment.

If you want to treat several areas, compare with half body and full body. For the general picture on sessions and skin types, visit our page on laser hair removal in Málaga.

After your session

Aftercare

  • 24–48 hours without intense training, sauna or chlorinated pools: sweat and heat irritate freshly treated skin
  • A cotton T-shirt and no rucksack on a treated back on the first day
  • SPF 50 if your back or chest will be in the sun during the next 15 days
  • On the neck, no alcohol-based aftershave for 24 hours
  • Between sessions, razor or clippers; no waxing or epilators

It's normal to notice

  • Noticeable bumps and redness on the back and chest for a few hours, because of the hair density
  • Mild itching as the treated hair sheds

Frequently asked questions

Where can men get laser hair removal in Málaga?

At Narumi Estética Avanzada & Bienestar, Calle Cristo de la Epidemia 33, in Málaga city centre, near El Ejido and La Victoria. We use a diode laser with a cooled sapphire tip, well suited to men's coarse hair, and Marta Fernández carries out the consultation and every session. More and more men come to us for their back, chest or beard line. Appointments are in Spanish; message us on WhatsApp and we'll do our best to help.

Why do men need more sessions?

Because men's hair on the back, chest and shoulders is denser and heavily influenced by testosterone, which keeps activating follicles over the years. Laser responds well to that coarse hair, but there are more follicles to reach. As a guide, 8 to 10 sessions, a few more on the back and shoulders, then one or two top-up sessions a year depending on the person.

Can I shape my beard with laser?

Yes, and it's one of the most common requests: clearing the neck below the jawline and the cheeks above the beard. It reduces irritation from daily shaving and ingrown hairs on the neck. We mark the line with you, face to face, and err on the side of caution, because the reduction is long-lasting: if you take it too high, you won't be able to bring it back down.

What about removing my whole beard?

It can be done, but we'll ask you to think it through. The hair reduction is long-lasting and your beard is part of how you look for many years; fashions change, and so do your tastes. It's also a very dense area that needs a lot of sessions. If you're sure, go ahead; if you're in two minds, start by shaping the neck and decide later.

I compete in sport. How do I fit the sessions in?

Avoid a session in the 24–48 hours before a competition or a long training session: sweat, rubbing from a cycling jersey or wetsuit and sun on freshly treated skin all encourage irritation. If you swim, wait 48 hours before going in chlorinated water. If you train outdoors, use sunscreen on exposed areas. Tell us your calendar and we'll plan appointments for the quieter weeks.

Who shaves my back before the session?

If someone at home can help with clippers the day before, perfect. If not, let us know when you book and we'll shave it in the room at the start of the session; it's very common. What matters is not arriving with the hair pulled out by wax or an epilator, because the laser needs the root to work.

Does laser hurt more for men?

In the first sessions it's usually more noticeable, because there's more coarse hair absorbing energy at once, especially on the chest, back and neck. The cooled sapphire tip chills the skin with each pulse and we adjust the energy so it's tolerable. As the hair thins out, the sensation eases noticeably; the first appointments are the most intense.

Can the shoulders and upper back be treated?

Yes, as long as the hair is dark and coarse. On the shoulders and upper back it's common to find fine fuzz mixed in with coarse hair. That fuzz responds poorly and, in some people, the heat can stimulate it rather than reduce it. So at your consultation we mark where the hair is worth treating and leave the rest out.

How much does laser hair removal for men cost?

Per-session prices for the back, chest and stomach, neck and nape, half body and full body are in the price table on this page and on our prices page. If you're treating your back, chest and stomach, the upper half body is usually better value than adding the areas separately. We'll go through it with you at your consultation.
