Laser hair removal

Facial laser hair removal in Málaga

Facial laser hair removal gives long-lasting, progressive reduction of dark hair on the upper lip, chin, sideburns or between the brows, using a diode laser with a cooled sapphire tip. At Narumi, in Málaga city centre, Marta Fernández carries it out in sessions of 10 to 20 minutes, every 4–6 weeks. The face usually needs more sessions than the body, between 8 and 12, and if the hair is hormonal, your doctor should look at it first.

What you can (and can't) expect

What it helps with

  • Dark upper lip hair, the 'moustache', which grows back sparser and finer
  • Coarse hair on the chin and jawline
  • Sideburns and between the brows
  • Irritation and redness from tweezing, threading or waxing the face

What it doesn't do

  • It doesn't work on fine, light peach fuzz on the cheeks
  • It doesn't address the underlying cause of hormonal facial hair
  • It doesn't work on bleached, grey or blonde hair
  • It doesn't lighten pigmentation or improve skin texture

Is it right for you?

Ideal for

  • Women with dark hair on the upper lip, chin or sideburns
  • Anyone who tweezes or threads their face every few days
  • Anyone who gets irritation or spots from facial waxing
  • Men who want to clear the area between the brows

When we don't carry it out

  • Facial hair that has appeared suddenly or heavily and hasn't been checked by your doctor or endocrinologist
  • Tanned skin or strong sun exposure in the last 15 days
  • Retinoids, exfoliating acids or a peel in the days beforehand
  • Oral isotretinoin in recent months or photosensitising medication
  • An active cold sore (if you're prone to them, mention it beforehand)
  • Over micropigmentation or facial moles
  • The eyelids and eyebrows: we don't work near the eye
  • Pregnancy

If you're unsure about your own situation, check with your doctor first. We'll go through it with you at your initial consultation.

Your session, step by step

  1. Assessing the hair

We look at its colour and thickness and how long it's been increasing. If we suspect a hormonal cause, we'll tell you and suggest you get it checked.

  2. Clean, make-up-free skin

We remove make-up and creams. The hair should be shaved or, at the very least, not plucked for several weeks.

  3. Eye protection

You wear goggles or eye shields throughout the session, even when we're treating the lip and chin.

  4. Precision pulses

We work carefully around the lip line and jaw, and only over dark hair.

  5. Soothing and sun protection

A fragrance-free soothing product and SPF 50 before you head back outside.

Facial hair isn’t just a cosmetic matter

Hair on the upper lip, chin or sideburns has a stronger hormonal component than hair on the legs or underarms. It’s normal for it to increase with changes such as pregnancy, the menopause or certain treatments, and it can also be a sign of something that deserves a doctor’s attention. So at your consultation we don’t just look at colour and thickness: we ask how long it’s been increasing, and how.

If the hair has appeared suddenly, is coarse and plentiful on the chin and neck, or comes with other changes such as irregular periods or acne you didn’t used to have, we’ll recommend you see your doctor or an endocrinologist before starting. That isn’t us passing the buck: laser can help afterwards, but if the cause is still active, new hairs will keep appearing, and it’s better to know that from the outset.

Precision on a small area

On the face we work with careful pulses, clean, make-up-free skin and eye protection at all times, even when treating the chin. The upper lip is the most noticeable area: thin skin, close to the bone and teeth. The chin and sideburns are usually easier.

We only treat dark hair of sufficient thickness. Fine, light fuzz on the cheeks doesn’t respond well and, in some people, the heat can stimulate it. We’d rather tell you and leave it out than add sessions that won’t help you.

Daily sun protection throughout your course

The face is the one area you can’t cover up. During your course, SPF 50 is part of the plan, not an optional extra: tanned or sun-irritated skin forces us to lower the energy or postpone the appointment. It’s just as important to stop retinoids and exfoliating acids for a few days before and after each session.

If you’re a man looking to shape your beard line on the neck and cheeks, you’ll find the details on laser hair removal for men. For every other area, see our main page on laser hair removal in Málaga.

After your session

Aftercare

  • SPF 50 every morning throughout the course, reapplied if you spend time outdoors
  • No make-up on the area until the next day
  • Restart retinol and exfoliating acids after 3–5 days, once the skin has settled
  • No tweezing, threading, waxing or bleaching between sessions: a facial razor only
  • If you're prone to cold sores, bear it in mind over the following days and ask your doctor whether to take preventive measures

It's normal to notice

  • Redness and small bumps on the lip or chin for a few hours
  • A warm feeling for the rest of the day

Frequently asked questions

Where can I get facial laser hair removal in Málaga?

At Narumi Estética Avanzada & Bienestar, Calle Cristo de la Epidemia 33, in Málaga city centre, a few minutes from the historic centre and La Victoria. Marta Fernández, an advanced aesthetics specialist with over 15 years' experience, assesses your facial hair before you start and carries out every session with a diode laser with a cooled sapphire tip.

Why does the face need more sessions than other areas?

Because women's facial hair is closely linked to hormones, which keep activating new follicles over time, and because it often mixes fine and coarse hairs. Facial hair also renews faster, so sessions are every 4–6 weeks. As a guide, 8 to 12 sessions, followed by top-ups depending on the person.

I've suddenly got a lot of hair on my chin. Will laser help?

Before laser, see your doctor or an endocrinologist. Coarse hair that suddenly appears on the chin, neck or sideburns can be caused by hormonal changes, medication or conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, which are worth looking into. With their go-ahead, laser can help reduce it, bearing in mind that if the cause is still active you'll need more sessions and top-ups.

Can you laser between the eyebrows?

Yes, between the brows we can, with eye protection and leaving a margin from the eyebrows. What we don't do is shape eyebrows with laser or work on the eyelids: being so close to the eye isn't worth it, and brow shapes change over the years. For that, the salon offers other options such as microblading.

Does it work on peach fuzz on the cheeks?

We don't recommend it. Fine, light fuzz has little pigment and responds poorly to laser, and in some people the heat can actually stimulate that fine hair instead of reducing it, especially on the cheeks and neck. That's why on the face we only treat dark hair of sufficient thickness. If the fuzz bothers you, we'll talk you through other options.

Can I keep tweezing or threading between sessions?

No. Tweezing, threading and waxing pull the hair out by the root, and without the root the laser has nothing to direct heat to at the next session. Between sessions, use a facial razor or small scissors. Breaking the habit is hard at first, but within a few sessions there's far less hair to deal with.

I bleach my upper lip. Can I have laser?

Yes, but stop bleaching as soon as you decide to start. The laser needs the dark pigment in the hair, and bleached hair has very little, so the session would achieve very little. Ideally, wait for hair in its natural colour to grow through and trim or shave it in the meantime. At your consultation we'll tell you when it's ready to treat.

Which sunscreen should I use during facial laser?

A broad-spectrum SPF 50 every morning, in winter and on cloudy days too, reapplied if you spend time outdoors. In Málaga your face gets sun almost all year round, and tanned or sun-irritated skin means lowering the energy or postponing the session. If you wear make-up with SPF, apply it over your sunscreen, not instead of it.

How much does facial laser cost?

Per-session prices for the upper lip, chin and full face are in the price table on this page and on our prices page. If two or more areas of your face bother you, the full face usually works out better value. At your consultation we look at which areas are worth treating and which wouldn't respond, so you don't pay for sessions that won't help.
